Experiencing Dry, Flaky Winter Skin?
If you’re anything like me it seems like in the winter time you’re always parched like you can’t seem to drink enough water, and your skin is dry and itchy. No matter how much moisturizer and lotion you put on it seems to never be enough.
What is the real problem?
We need to hydrate AND exfoliate our skin. So don’t just moisturize it, exfoliate it!!! I preach this constantly to all my clients, “Hydrated and exfoliated skin makes for a better makeup application.”
90% of the time dry, flaky skin is due to a lack of proper exfoliation. When your skin is dry your first thought is to apply excessive amounts of moisturizer to combat the dryness, which just ends up sitting on top of dead skin and creates even more build up. Dry skin has less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling.
What should you do?
If your skin is dry, I recommend a deep cleansing facial with either manual or chemical exfoliation twice a month to remove the dead skin cells which will leave the skin’s epidermal barrier healthier and able to retain hydration. Increasing your water consumption, not just slathering excessive amounts of moisturizer will keep the skin hydrated. If your skin is not getting the sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Work your way up to a gallon a day. If you follow my recommendations you’ll see lasting results in no time.
